www.mobile-battery.cn The cellphone battery market will remain sustainable for 2007-2010, according to Research and Markets. The Li-ion battery segment will reach a CAGR of production scale of 9.85 percent and a CAGR of sales revenue of 5.85 percent, a dip from 2003-2006 figures in which CAGR of global Li-ion battery production scale hit 23.2 percent while the CAGR of sales revenue hit 12.25 percent. Rapid growth for the segment will begin as the demand for other mobile apps such as the PDA and digital camera rises in the future, noted the research firm.
According to Research and Markets, the global Li-ion battery industry—which covers 80 percent of market shares for the battery industry— has been monopolized evenly by China, South Korea and Japan. This will continue for a long time, given the three countries' characteristics.
China alone has turned into a global Li-ion battery production base for battery manufacturers, forming a complete industry chain from upstream products, raw material manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, battery processing, export trade and downstream products. Over 100 Li-ion battery manufacturers are in China including Shenzhen BYD, BAK and Tianjin Lishen which has an annual output of 600 million units.
Moreover, China Li-ion manufacturers have caught up with their counterparts in Korea and Japan. For example, BYD and Lishen ranked top five and top ten respectively on production capabilities worldwide.
